A heartwarming and humorous romance in which an unlikely couple fall in love over Wordle.

Twenty-seven-year-old Emily doesn't have a lot going well in her life right now. She dreams of a creative career but works as a receptionist in an auto shop. She longs for big city life but lives in a small town on Prince Edward Island. She craves a close group of friends but is stuck with irritating, car-obsessed coworkers.

What Emily does have is a 300+ day streak on the New York Times Wordle. But one day, with only one guess left and no clue what the answer is, she's forced to turn to one of her irritating, car-obsessed coworkers, John, for help—and in doing so, realizes that he might not be so irritating after all.

As they make their way, word by word, toward a 365-day streak, Emily is drawn into a surprising romance that will take her outside of her comfort zone—and challenge everything she thought she knew about happiness, success, and love.

James debuts with a lighthearted coming-of-age romance. Emily, 27, studied science in college only to realize after she graduated that she wants a career in the arts. For now, she works as an auto shop receptionist in the small town of Waldon on Prince Edward Island while dreaming of bigger and better things. Though she hopes to move to a city, every day there’s more tying her to Waldon, including her volunteer work at the local barrel museum, the elderly neighbors who come to rely on her, and her coworker and fellow Wordle lover John Smith, for whom she develops feelings. When an internship opportunity arises in New York City, she must decide if pursuing her dreams is worth leaving the place and people she’s unexpectedly come to love. James shines depicting the simple joys of small-town life. The opposites attract dynamic between giddy Emily and quiet, somewhat judgmental John is slightly less successful, and John’s tendency to downplay Emily’s emotions and ambitions will rub some readers the wrong way. Those in it for Emily’s journey of self-discovery, however, will find plenty to enjoy. Agent: John Adams, Adams Literary.

Katie Koster will charm a wide audience with this fun romantic performance. Wordle enthusiast Emily daydreams at her dead-end job as a receptionist at a car shop. When her car's alternator dies, her co-worker, John, comes to her rescue, and the bland mechanic suddenly becomes interesting when he shares his own enjoyment of Wordle. Koster offers an authentic narration of this unexpected romance. She does an outstanding job depicting the anxious thoughts we all experience as they are embodied in Emily. Those seeking weak-in-the-knees romantic moments will be rewarded as John and Emily get to know each other better. This classic romance about not judging a book by its cover is expertly performed.
