Jeff Marks is a Head of English under pressure after catastrophic GCSE results. The governors give him one year to redeem himself and save Greenside College from closure or academisation. Jeff believes in his team, especially the talented young recruits George and Dan, but their rivalry creates problems he must resolve during a challenging Autumn term.Winter brings romantic complications and a stark professional dilemma. When Jeff's headteacher discovers rival schools are cheating remorselessly on English coursework, he insists on Jeff 'playing the game.' There's no other way to compete.
