McKenna (Their Marriage Bargain) creates a marriage of inconvenience story with Maddie Moss attempting to avoid the marriage imposed on her by her grandmother by picking the absolute least suitable groom in Jack Daly. McKenna's dialogue is a highlight, and her characters spark off each other. The book maintains a lighthearted tone, even when dealing with some of the more complex emotions that arise from the history between Maddie and Jack. The characters are forthright and don't shy away from serious relationship conversations throughout the book. McKenna manages to create both a compelling romantic story line and unravel a past mystery on the way to her characters' happy endings. Some readers might find the ultimate resolution to the mystery a bit convenient, but McKenna's plotting and character work makes it an acceptable conclusion. VERDICT This breezy romance provides a nice twist and update on the marriage of convenience with enjoyable characters to follow.--Brigid Black
