Team Roping Journal educates and entertains readers who actively participate in the sport. We help you to obtain the best results with step-by-step instruction in how to perform at a higher level and win more often. After all, we all know that while the heart is in the land and on the ranch, the ego is alive and well when it comes to besting your friends in the arena.

Dear Roper

The Team Roping Journal

DOING WORK • Last year’s NFR average champs Tanner Tomlinson and Patrick Smith aren’t showing any signs of stopping in 2023—winning the largest one-head check over rodeo’s Fourth-of-July run at the Cody Stampede with a 4.6-second run, worth $8,310 a man.

ALL-AROUND COWGIRL • Wyoming’s National High School Finals Rodeo 2022 Pole Bending Champ Rayne Grant paired with South Dakota’s Seth A Weishaar, to win $3,060 for a time of 40.49 seconds on four head in the #12.5 Megabucks at the NTR’s Cowboy Christmas in Rapid City, South Dakota.

ARIAT WSTR FINALE MUST-KNOW INFORMATION • Entry deadlines are coming in hot for 2023’s Ariat World Series of Team Roping Finale.

(At Home With) • If you don’t yet know Crescent, Oklahoma’s Yeahquo brothers, it’s time. Little brother and header Jeremiah Cole (JC), and big brother and heeler Luke Jarrette (LJ) have been making waves as world-class team ropers all year long, with wins from Rapid City, South Dakota to Jackson, Mississippi and San Angelo, Texas to Oakley, Utah. Could this be the year Team Yeahquo— which is pronounced YAY-quo—makes its way to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo roster?

MAXING OUT SEPTEMBER SCENARIOS

USTRC CINCH LADIES COMPETITORS RISE TO THE CHALLENGE • Ropers across the country are earning points and taking early season names in the Cinch Ladies race.

KNOW THE GAME • 5 flat | next level | freeze frame | game plan | horsepower

Next Level with Cade Rice

Freeze Frame

Game Plan with Nelson Wyatt

LUKE BROWN'S SUCCESS IS IN HIS HORSE HERD • Brown’s string is four deep in 2023.

BIG GAME • Team ropers and the outdoors go together like a World Series barrier and the South Point. These ropers are making a living in the hunting industry, with a passion for conservation and wide open spaces of the American West.

Surviving the PRO RODEO PRESSURE COOKER Also Known As SEPTEMBER • September is here. Last month of the regular rodeo season. Last call to cross the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualification finish line in 2023. As is the case every year, there will be cowboy code blues at both ends of the human-emotions spectrum. Some exhausted bubble boys will realize their roping dreams. Others will have their hearts broken, and head home broke and blue. We thought it would be fun to relive some memorable highs and lows of Septembers past to see what those who lived to tell about it learned from surviving the stress.

The Numbers Don't Lie • In a world rife with dirty recession rumors, rodeo is making gains, and the girls are leading the charge.

BY THE NUMBERS

WOMEN'S RODEO Celebrates 75 Years • Women’s Professional Rodeo Association reigns as oldest female pro sports league.
