The Team Roping Journal

Nov 01 2022
Magazine

The Team Roping Journal magazine educates and entertains readers who actively participate in the sport. We help you to obtain the best results with step-by-step instruction in how to perform at a higher level and win more often. After all, we all know that while the heart is in the land and on the ranch, the ego is alive and well when it comes to besting your friends in the arena.

Dear Roper

The Team Roping Journal

HUG-WORTHY WIN • Tanner White and Beau Gordanier roped four steers in 38.84 seconds to win $16,300 and spots in Las Vegas at the #9.5 Ariat World Series of Team Roping qualifier, held in conjunction with the NTR's Western Frontier Labor Day Celebration in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

DAD'S STILL GOT IT • Eight-time World Champion Speed Williams spun the wheels off of four steers in 27.30 seconds for his 15-year-old son Gabe at the WSTR Tennessee Special in Cleveland to get them a spot in The American Rodeo's $40,000 Eastern Regional Finals. Between the combined Ariat World Series of Team Roping Finale Open qualifier and The American Contender Series event, the duo earned $14,250 for their efforts.

Ariat World Series of Team Roping Adds Open Calcutta and Kick-Off Party to 2022 Lineup • While little else will change for the 2022 Finale, the addition of a Kick-Off Party and Calcutta will continue to up-the-ante in Las Vegas.

(At Home With) • Tanner Tomlinson is about to take aim at his first trip to the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The 2020 Resistol Rookie Header of the Year will do 2022 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo battle with two-time Champ of the World Patrick Smith. The 22-year-old youngest son of Steve and Liz Tomlinson was raised in Angleton, Texas.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE HORSES

NOGUEIRA TOPS $2 MILLION IN PRORODEO EARNINGS • Junior Nogueira's ProRodeo earnings top $2 million some nine years after coming to the United States and buying his ProRodeo card.

OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS • For Jarvis Russette, enlisting in the Army before his senior year of high school seemed like his best opportunity. Now, after retiring from the military and law enforcement, it's the roping that keeps opening doors.

FROM BOOTSTRAPS TO TOP BRASS • Utah's Redgie Probst had some hard-knock beginnings but is now the COO of a Fortune 200 company. At first glance, he's living large, but the value of good leadership and teamwork retains a strong hold in his story.

FINALLY IN FIRST: WALKER GUY & HOUSTON CHILDERS • Since the start of the standings this July, USTRC Resistol Jr. header Walker Guy has stalked the top spot—sometimes by as little as one point—and he now leads. Similarly, Houston Childers, who was once tied for first and never slipped past second in the heeling, has now claimed his own solitary lead.—

TIGHT RACE AT TOP OF LADIES STANDINGS • USTRC Cinch Ladies header Tracey Nelson holds onto her top spot with a few additional points while heeler Voy McNeil dark-horses her way into a tie for first with Staci Mitchell.

5 FLAT NO TIME with Jake Long

ROPING'S MUCH-NEEDED HORSEMANSHIP REFOCUS • The best way to improve your team roping is to improve your horsemanship.
